Dear僑團領袖與僑校校長:

First, I would like to thank Peggy Chiu who provided me with the contact list to allow sending of this email.

My name is Yee-Ho Chia (賈儀和), and I have volunteered my time serving Michigan Chinese Women Association for many years in the past.   I am writing to you to ask your support for the 2017 Chinese New Year event at DIA (Detroit Institute of Arts).

Recently, I started to volunteer at DIA , and serve as a Board member of FAAC (Friends of Asian Arts and Cultures).  In the fall of 2018, DIA is working on the reopening of an Asian Gallery, which is an exciting news for local Asian communities. In addition, DIA will host an exhibit of “Coffee, Tea and Chocolate” from Oct. 2016 to March 2017 and hence FAAC is planning to work with DIA on three events, namely Tea/Coffee event (Jan. 14-15, 2017),Chinese New Year (Feb. 11-12, 2017), and Japanese Girls Day (March 4-5, 2017).

My co-organizer, Li Hsieh and I were asked to help plan the 2-day Chinese New Year program (12-4pm).  The general program will consist of 4 categories: displays (Great Hall), demonstrations (Rivera Court), hands-on activities (Student Lunchroom) and performances (DFT auditorium-Saturday / Rivera Court-Sunday). The details of the planning are still on-going. Please see 2 attachments : (1) example of proposed event schedule  (2) DIA map.

It is the goal of DIA and FAAC to host a high-quality art and cultural program so that we can attract main stream attendees.  We know that strong supports of local Chinese schools (principal, teachers, staffs, and students) to help provide cultural programs (particularly demos/hands-on activities/performances) are the key to the success for this kind of the event.  Hence, we are seeking co-sponsorships of local schools and Taiwanese American organizations to help organize the event.

I do not know all of you in person so that I am sending this email to serve as the first notification. Please do me a BIG favor by marking your calendar:

  1. Save the dates of  Feb. 11-12, 2017 so that you can volunteer.

  2. Please avoid scheduling school-wide Chinese New Year celebration or board meeting of organizations on Feb. 11-12, 2017.

On the top of all, I would appreciate that we can get confirmation of your support.  We would plan to have a July meeting to plan the program jointly.

Thank you for your anticipated supports and help.
