We had a wonderful Harvest Festival Parade last week! I would like to thank all MCS staffs, parents, and teachers for all the donations and helping with the Harvest Festival to make the event fun and successful! Parent On Duty

Chinese Reading Month (Oct 1 – Nov 5, 2022)
The reading month activity ends this Saturday. Please remind students to turn in their reading log.

2022-2023 MCS Directory Editing/Production and Advertising Fundraising (Now – Oct 29, 2022)

We’ve completed the recruitment of ad sponsorship in MCS Directory. I would like to thank everyone that was involved in supporting this activity. Also, I would like to thank our Documentation Director, Steven Lien, for the production of the MCS Directory. Thank you all for your hard work! We will be binding them together at school on Saturday. We are seeking 4 parents to help us finish the binding process. Please come see us at the hallway outside the classroom area if you would like to help.Weekly Food/Item Sale for Donations to MCS 
We are starting a food/item sale each week during school hours. Earnings of all sales will be donated to MCS. The sale will be located at the hallway outside the classroom area. The following are the food/items we will be selling this Saturday. If you are interested in selling food/items for donation to MCS, please let me know. Please note that you or someone you designated will be responsible for selling your food/item.

  • Homemade Chiffon Cake from Ice Chai – $1 per slice (Limited pieces, first come first serve until all sold out).
  • Lightning charging cables for Apple products from Ivan Tang – $1 per pack of 3 cables.

Parent On Duty

Tasks:

  • Keeping the school hours by ringing the bell at the beginning and the end of each class
  • Keeping students in order and safe during recess (e.g., no student running/chasing allowed inside the Ward church)

Harvest Festival Procedures (Oct 29, 2022)

Students are welcome to bring their own bag/bucket for collecting treats and wear costumes to the class or bring them in to change at school.

NOTE: We ask that costumes be school/church appropriate, which includes non-violent, non-scary, and no weapons or gore/blood.

  • 1:30-2:25: Photo Station decoration and treat stations preparations
    • Drop off treat donations at the hallway outside of classroom area.
    • Drop off decoration items at the Photo Station between grade 2 and 3 classrooms.
    • 1:30-1:40: Event Planner/General Staff Support team members and volunteers meet at the hallway outside classroom for a quick meeting for task assignments.
  • 2:30: Harvest Festival Parade begin
    1. When the recess bell rings at 2:30, teacher of each class will bring their students out to the hallway outside of the classroom area to line up by grade starting with Pre-K to Senior class in order.
    2. Students of each class will go around the classrooms to get their treats at each treat station and take class group picture at the photo station in the middle.
    3. Students wait at the hallway outside the classroom area until all students pass Treat Station 4 for final group picture of all grades.
    4. All students return to their classrooms after the final group picture.

Chinese Reading Month (Oct 1 – Nov 5, 2022)
We are entering our 3rd week of the Chinese Reading Month. In addition to classroom lessons, the school encourages students to read and watch Chinese books and videos outside of class time. Parents are encouraged to accompany and assist their children in reading Chinese books and videos. ** NOTE ** Deadline for sponsor ad submission is extended to 10/29/2022.

It will be greatly appreciated if parents can sign up to contact the pre-populated sponsors and/or to develop new sponsors for our school.  Please go to the sign-up link (here) to learn more about the process and past sponsors.  

As a small token of gratitude, a reward of $20 (for each full-page advertisement) or $15 (for each half-page advertisement) will be awarded to each parent who successfully secures the sponsorship to our school.   Feel free to download the flyer with detailed advertising package options to facilitate your engagement with your sponsor(s).

    • Must isolate for 5 FULL days.
    • You may return to school on day 6 or later, as long as your symptoms have significantly improved, and you mask-to-stay days 6-10.
  • SYMPTOMS SUGGESTIVE OF COVID-19
    • Stay at home until one of the following conditions is met:
      • (At any time) Provide proof of a negative provider administered COVID-19 test
      • (At Day 6 – 10) Provide proof of a negative home COVID-19 test, symptoms have significantly improved, and you mask-to-stay days 6-10.
      • Complete a 5 full day quarantine and then must mask-to-stay for days 6-10.
    • Symptomatic student or staff with pending COVID-19 test cannot come to school.
  • IDENTIFIED AS A CLOSE CONTACT
    • Household contacts may continue to attend school as long as they monitor for symptoms AND wear a well fitted mask for 10 days.
      • (Symptom suggestive) If exposed household contacts develop symptoms
      • If without symptoms AND the positive COVID-19 household contact is isolated, please test on day 5 post exposure.
      • If without symptoms AND the positive COVID-19 household contact cannot be isolated, please test on day 5 and day 10 post exposure.

Chinese New Year Planning
Our Chairperson of Parent Representatives, Jasmine Hsu, will host the 1st meeting for the Chinese New Year Celebration planning. All Parent Representatives and selective staff members please plan to join the meeting at 1:45pm in the sitting area by the cafe. Jasmine sent out an invitation email on Sunday, 10/16. Please join the meeting if you are invited.

Extra-curricular Program – Floral Arrangement Class

Our senior class teacher, 陳翎玥老師, is starting a floral arrangement class (see attached pdf file for more information). The class will start on 11/12. Please see 黃雅玲 (Ya-Ling Huang) at the hallway outside of the classroom area to register for the class.

Fire Drill on Saturday (Oct 8, 2022)

We will be conducting our annual school fire drill evacuation exercise on Saturday, 10/8/22, around 2:20 p.m. Our teachers have received guidance from the Director of Discipline earlier this week, and we expect the students to follow their respective teacher’s instructions during the evacuation exercise to move together safely as a group to the designated assembly areas outside of the Ward Church building.  The detailed evacuation plan, route, and assembly area map can be found here.

Chinese Reading Month (Oct 1 – Nov 5, 2022)

Dear MCS Families,

Thank you very much for attending our 1st Parent Assembly meeting of the school year last Saturday.  It’s great to be able to share the school operation status update and welcome our new MCS families! Many thanks to our staff members to make this event a success!

Chinese Reading Month (Oct 1 – Nov 5, 2022)
Reading Month is about to begin. In addition to classroom lessons, the school encourages students to read and watch Chinese books and videos outside of class time. Parents are encouraged to accompany and assist their children in reading Chinese books and videos. Detailed instructions and forms will be provided and explained by each classroom teacher.
Parents are encouraged to add additional activities for the event, such as poster making. For classes that wish to participate, a poster session will be held after the event.  Photos of the event will be posted on the official Facebook page.

Student Perfect Attendance Award

  • The school provides classroom-based online student attendance forms, and parents can confirm attendance online.
  • Attendance awards are given once a year.
  • Perfect Attendance Award Standard
    • Attendance in every class, including speech contests, New Year Celebration, and graduation ceremonies is required.
    • No tardiness or leaving early (Be no more than 15 minutes late or leave early)
    • If it is snowing on a school day, students must arrive within 15 minutes of the start of class or be recorded as tardy.
    • In the event of weather or other factors that seriously affect traffic on a school day and delay the arrival of most teachers and students, the principal will announce the tardiness criteria on the day.
    • In the event of a snowstorm that closes the church on a school day, perfect attendance will not be counted.

The event costs $20 per person (original cost is $45) after the donation from many sponsors. In addition to the delicious lunch, coffee, tea and desserts, there will be a beautiful wall stand and unforgettable Taiwanese ice sculpture on display for photos, as well as amazing Taiwanese folk song singing and lion dance performance. 

In addition, TECO in Chicago will arrive at 10am to accept Passport/Visa related applications for those who have a need for the same. Please visit the TECO website for detailed information.

Covid-19 Guideline

  • TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19
    • Must isolate for 5 FULL days.
    • You may return to school on day 6 or later, as long as your symptoms have significantly improved, and you mask-to-stay days 6-10.
  • SYMPTOMS SUGGESTIVE OF COVID-19
    • Stay at home until one of the following conditions is met:
      • (At any time) Provide proof of a negative provider administered COVID-19 test
      • (At Day 6 – 10) Provide proof of a negative home COVID-19 test, symptoms have significantly improved, and you mask-to-stay days 6-10.
      • Complete a 5 full day quarantine and then must mask-to-stay for days 6-10.
    • Symptomatic student or staff with pending COVID-19 test cannot come to school.
  • IDENTIFIED AS A CLOSE CONTACT
    • Household contacts may continue to attend school as long as they monitor for symptoms AND wear a well fitted mask for 10 days.
      • (Symptom suggestive) If exposed household contacts develop symptoms
      • If without symptoms AND the positive COVID-19 household contact is isolated, please test on day 5 post exposure.
      • If without symptoms AND the positive COVID-19 household contact cannot be isolated, please test on day 5 and day 10 post exposure.
      • Notify school staff of ALL positive test results

It was great to see everyone back to school and new families joining our community. This Saturday is the 2nd week of school. We have many important events this Saturday.  Please carefully read the following announcement.

School Event(s) on Sat, 9/17/22 

  • Parent Representative meeting (1:40 – 2:30 p.m. next to Welcome Desk and Cafe; separate meeting invitation would be sent to the participants, see map below)
    • The meeting will be hosted by the 2021-2022 Parent Representative Chairperson, Jack Li.
    • All 2022-2023 Parent Representatives need to attend.
    • The 2022-2023 Parent Representative Chairperson will be elected in this meeting.
  • 1st MCS Staff meeting (2:50 – 3:30 p.m. next to Welcome Desk and Cafe; separate meeting invitation would be sent to the participants, see map below)
    • The lead of each position in the workload sign-up sheet are invited. We will briefly go thru the calendar and tasks for each role.

密西根中文學校週報 (開學日:本周六, 9/10/22) MCS Newsletter (1st Day of School Tomorrow, Sat, 9/10/22)

Dear MCS Families,

Hope you all enjoyed the summer. The new school year will start on September 10th on Saturday at Ward Church (40000 Six Mile Road, Northville, MI 48168). Chinese classes begins at 1:30 PM and ends at 3:30 PM.

<Note> 
– Tardy: Students who are 15+ minutes late or 15+ minute early dismissal for school hours are considered tardy, and will not be qualified for perfect attendance award.

– Please remind all children that DO NOT RUN or EAT in the hallway. Snacking is allowed in the classroom during the breaks but please keep clean of chairs, tables, and carpet. Please remind all children to wash their hands before and after snacking.

* Please refrain your children from damaging church’s properties including but not limited to pianos, chalkboards, drums, computers, lighting, audio system, phones. Parents will be responsible for the compensation if their children made damage to church’s properties.
